Build an online store – from platform choice to launched store

The most important decision is made before anything is built: which platform the business actually requires. Here is our honest walkthrough.

The platform choice decides more than the design

Most people setting out to build a store start at the wrong end — with how it should look. But what decides whether the store works in two years is rarely the design; it is whether the platform can carry the business logic.

The questions that actually matter: how many products and variants? Do you sell to consumers, businesses, or both? Do different customers need different prices? Do stock and orders have to line up with an ERP? Are there steps in the sale that do not go through a normal checkout?

The answers almost always point clearly in one direction. We go through them first and recommend after that — even when the recommendation is the simpler and cheaper route.

Shopify or custom – how we choose

No platform is best in general. It is best for a particular situation.

Choose Shopify when

You sell physical products through a reasonably standard process, want to be live quickly, and do not need unusual business logic. The shortest route to a store that works.

Choose custom when

The business logic is unusual — B2B prices per customer, quote flows, configurators, subscriptions with their own rules — or when platform fees grow faster than the benefit.

The combination is often the answer

Shopify as store and checkout, with custom integrations and functionality on top. That gives you the safety of the standard with your own logic where it is needed.

Common questions

What does it cost to build an online store?

With us you pay a fixed monthly price rather than a project sum. The level is driven by the size of the range and which integrations are needed, and the price is set before the build starts.

How long does it take?

A standard store with a manageable range can be live in a few weeks. What normally takes time is product data and integrations, not the store itself.

What is the difference from building it ourselves?

Building a store that works is easy. Building one that converts, loads fast, is found in Google and stays in step with the ERP is a different job. The difference shows in the order flow, not on launch day.

Can you migrate our existing store?

Yes. Migrating products, customers, orders and URLs is routine. The most important thing in a move is that old URLs do not start returning 404 — we handle that with redirects.

What happens to SEO when we change platform?

With the right redirects and the structure preserved, the effect is usually neutral or positive. Without them you often lose a large share of the traffic — it is the single most common platform-migration mistake.
